We currently have 3 permanent part-time (30 hrs/wk) and casual positions available for General Duties Staff at our Pindari Men's Hostel. Please indicate on your application which position/s you wish to be considered for. Pindari endeavours to assist those men in the community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to alleviate their situation in a manner which respects the equality of people and the uniqueness of each individual, allowing the person to aim towards honest potential in an environment which is supportive and secure and embraces the philosophies of the Salvation Army and the principles of the Supported Assistance Accommodation Program. In this role you will ensure that residents and staff feel a sense of safety at all times while they are on the property at Pindari, and provide general assistance to residents and staff. You will regularly patrol the premises ie. all residents floors and outside of the building as well as conducting internal security checks including offices, medical centre, kitchen, dining room, laundry, bathrooms, toilets and stairwells and External security checks of building and property. You will be required to take appropriate actions that may require calling the police, ambulance, Medical staff, Coordinator and management or escorting people off the building and property. - A capacity to relate effectively using basic communication skills to all consumers of Pindari.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in dealing with clients with problems of homelessness, allied to or resulting from physical and/or mental health, drug and alcohol, social dysfunction or circumstances beyond their control.
- Basic computer skills
- Willingness to participate in training and education.
- Hold a current St John's Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent (preferable)
- Hold a current Drivers Licence
- An interest and a willingness to contribute to improving standards of service.
- An understanding of and empathy with the Christian faith, values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
- A high ability to receive and interpret instructions correctly.
- Ability to work autonomously, plan and prioritise work effectively.
- Training in a safety or security role
