The Financial crisis has impacted heavily on the unemployment rate in Australia, especially in the western area such as western Sydney, the Central Coast and Newcastle.
North Sydney, eastern suburbs and inner west unemployment rate remains negligible and is often below 2 per cent, the report published yesterday by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations found.
But go further west and the unemployment rate approaches 10 per cent in some areas.
It showed the steepest drop was in the manufacturing sector, and in NSW, where skilled job vacancies fell by 10.5 per cent in December, compared to a national fall of 7.2 per cent.
In printing, vacancies were down 24.2 per cent from the previous month. Metal and wood trades registered a 15 per cent fall.
